CHO cells transfected with vector expressing ADP-ribosylating toxic VgrG from Aeromonas hydrophila. Rounded cells are cells with successful transfection.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Red) tagged with ClpV-GFP mixed with E. coli (faded green).
Mixture of differently labeled but isogenic Vibrio cholerae cells. In the absence of antagonistic T6SS behavior, the cells remain well mixed.

Mekalanos Lab
The Mekalanos laboratory is engaged in the analysis of bacterial virulence and functional genomics. The goal of these studies is to understand how pathogenic bacteria grow, evade the host immune system and ultimately cause disease. A variety of organisms are currently studied in the laboratory including several Vibrio species and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
